We recommend you read these instructions before proceeding

Instructions

Logging In

  • The new board requires each member to log in to the page with his own id (unlike the old board where everyone used the same login)

  • Accounts have been established for every known DFA member

  • Your user name is your first initial followed by your last name.  (e.g.  Joe Smith’s user name will be JSMITH)

  • Your password is your N-Number (e.g. N1245K)

  • When you get on you can (and should) change your password in the “Control Center

  • If the board does recognize your ID or password you can enter your email address and have your ID and a new password mailed to you.  (The system must recognize your email address so use the one DFA has on file for you)

  • Do not use “Create New Profile” because you will create a duplicate of yourself which we will have to resolve and you will still not have access to the board until the new profile is approved.  It is easier to correct your original entry than to resolve duplicates and it will take the same amount of time for you.

The New Board

The new board has many new features.

  • New messages are marked “new”
  • You can subscribe to a topic and receive an email when someone posts a new message to that topic (or the entire board)
  • You can get the board as an RSS feed to your browser
  • You can upload pictures and documents with your posts (there are limits to size and number of uploads per message)
  • You can send private messages to other members through the board
  • Full text search on all messages.  Enter a search word(s) and you will see any topics where that word appears anywhere in the main topic or any responses.  – Very cool!!

Notes about the Conversion from Old to New

  • When you first log on you will notice that all the messages are “new” to you.  You can mark them all “read” by clicking on the “Mark Forum Read” link on the page.  This will mark the 3000+ old messages read, so you will be able to see what is really new.

  • The messages on the old board had some errors which we think we fixed.  But, if we missed any please contact the BoardMaster and we will try to get them fixed.

  • The new board requires that every message be related to a known user.  In some cases we were unable to find a user for a message as we moved it over.  Those messages contain the original header information (name and email as entered by the poster) but they will be attributed to user “unknown.”  If you notice a post of yours that you want credit for or wish to have attributed to you, contact the BoardMaster and we can assign that post to you.

Thanks for reading the instructions.

Go forth to the new board and enjoy!
